About Some of the Diseases We Treat

Medical diseases resulting from abnormal growth of cells with the possibility to spread to other parts of the body and invade different organs.  There are many different types of cancers that affect humans.

Epilepsy is a condition that causes people to have repeated seizures. Not everyone who has had a seizure has epilepsy. Other medical problems can also cause seizures. In addition people who pass out may look like they have suffered a seizure.

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the main nerve in the eye, called the optic nerve. It causes vision loss and can even lead to blindness. There are different types of glaucoma. The most common type in the United States is called "chronic open-angle glaucoma."

HIV is the name of a virus that can affect the body's "immune system," which is responsible for fighting infections. When people have untreated HIV infection, they can become sick easily. That's because their immune system cannot work as well to fight off infections or cancer. Even so, people with HIV can take medicines to control the virus, keep their immune system strong, and stay healthy for many years

AIDS is the term doctors use to describe the stage of HIV infection when the immune system is at its weakest.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease that damages the nerves that control muscles. This causes the muscles to weaken. The muscles slowly stop working, leaving the person unable to move (called "paralysis"). Over time, the disease gets worse and leads to death. ALS is also known as "Lou Gehrig's disease," after the famous baseball player who died of the disease.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder, or "PTSD," is a condition that can happen after people see or live through a trauma. A trauma is an intense event that involves serious injury or death, or the chance of serious injury or death. This can include medical events, such as a heart attack, surgery, or treatment in a hospital's intensive care unit ("ICU"). PTSD can cause nightmares, upsetting memories, anxiety, and other symptoms.

Parkinson's disease

What is Parkinson disease? — Parkinson disease is a brain disorder that affects movement. It gets worse over time and can affect other brain functions, too, such as learning and memory.

Crohn’s Disease

Crohn disease is a disorder that can cause diarrhea, belly pain, and other symptoms that affect the digestive tract. The digestive tract is the part of the body that takes in and breaks down food. It includes the mouth, the stomach, and the intestines

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disease that can cause problems with vision, numbness and tingling of the extremities, muscle weakness, and many other problems. MS occurs when the immune system (the body's infection-fighting system) attacks and damages nerves and their connections in the brain and spinal cord.
